The 20-year-old, who's enjoyed a breakthrough season with Frank Farina's side, has replaced Mariner Dylan Macallister in the squad from the last Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia in January.

"Mitch has done very well. I thought about him for Indonesia but I didn't want to take him too early. But I've seen all the games of Roar and he's always in the penalty box," Verbeek said today.

"Okay, he should be a little more cool in front of goal but he's a good player, a good age and a good guy."

Meanwhile, teenage Jets prodigy Ben Kantarovski has been in the squad as a train on player for experience. "We think it's good for him, his club and Australian football to let him train with the best players in the A-League for a few days."

Reds duo Fab Barbiero and Daniel Mullen have also capped breakthrough seasons with call ups.

"He [Barbiero] was one of the players we'd been looking at. He's good and he's still young. As for Daniel Mullen, he can play in the U/20s still but if he was not injured I'd have picked him for the Indonesia game.

"With his [Mullen's] age, hopefully we can give him a little bit of a push for the upcoming months and years. He's an interesting player for us. We don't have that many right backs of that age with quality."

Verbeek added that overseas players were never a consideration for the squad, despite saying publicly at the recent FFA coaching conference that he'd consider one or two overseas based players.

"We are good enough to beat Kuwait. We have to win the game at home," he added.
