Nurnberg defender Javier Pinola has publicly apologised for spitting at Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger in a Bundesliga match 10 days ago.
The Argentinian was suspended by the German Football Association (DFB) for the incident, which was not seen by the referee in Bayern's 3-0 victory.
He said sorry to his opponent after the game but has now spoken of his shame at what happened.
"I feel so bad about it," he told the Nurnberger Nachrichten newspaper. "It was stupid and I am ashamed a lot about it and for the fact that I cannot take it back.
"My mind was in a different world."
Pinola can play only one more game for Nurnberg this year as a result of the suspension.
