EXCLUSIVE: Former Melbourne Victory central defender Daniel Piorkowski begins training today with English Championship side Derby County on a 10-day trial.
Piorkowski, 24,has been unlucky with injuries over the last 18 months which kept him out of the Victory line up after signing for the club in its inaugural season.
It's known that Victory would have re-signed him had it not been for his injury spell.
Piorkowski's agent Tony Rallis told au.fourfourtwo.com that the player has the ability to make it in Europe.
"He is a quality player who can take the next step in his career. I'm confident all things being equal he can acquit himself well."
The defender was a regular in the Young Socceroos of 2003 but injury robbed him of a place in the world championships after having made his senior NSL debut as a 17-year-old with Melbourne Knights.
It's expected that Piorkowski, who is now fully fit, will get a run in a trial match against Oldham Athletic next week.
It's understood County boss Paul Jewell is looking at the former Victory man as a central defender despite the player being able to play across the backline.
Piorkowski will have Socceroo Mile Sterjovski for company during his trial and if he signs Ruben Zadkovich, who is currently with the Olyroos in Asia.
