SOUTH Melbourne's farewell to Bob Jane Stadium was thrown into disarray when a fan invasion forced the abandonment of its last home game at the venue.
More than 30 fans entered the playing arena as midfielder Carl Recchia scored a stoppage time equaliser against Heidelberg United.
Fans ran in front of the goals and tormented United players.
One man got face to face with Heidelberg goalkeeper Steve Tilovski and the referee was forced to call an abrupt end to proceedings as tensions boiled over.
South Melbourne star and 59th minute substitute Fernando De Moraes pleaded with fans to leave the arena after Recchia's headed goal made it 1-1.
While many fans obliged, few hung around on the pitch.
It came after a fan was ejected for using a laser in the first half, forced out of the arena by security at the beginning of the second period.
Home fans were less than impressed by the officiating, targeting a linesman with drinks and hurling abuse during the second half.
The invasion signalled the end of a proud history for the club at the venue, with a $50.3 million redevelopment to take place over the next 18 months.
Football Federation Victoria's Spectator Code of Behaviour outlines that fans cannot enter the "field of play or its surrounds without lawful authority".
The official result of the clash is yet to be decided.
