PORTSMOUTH remain in the hunt for a number of big name stars but chief executive Peter Storrie has warned it could take two more weeks to do business in the transfer market.
Peter Crouch, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Younes Kaboul have all been linked with moves to Fratton Park.
However, so far FA Cup winners Pompey have added only winger Glen Little, a free transfer from Reading, and young Israeli forward Ben Sahar, who is on a six-month loan from Chelsea, to last season's squad.
But manager Harry Redknapp wants at least five new faces at Fratton Park next season and is confident owner Sacha Gaydamak will come up with the cash.
Storrie, the man charged with negotiating transfer deals, knows fans are becoming impatient - especially with Pompey due to begin pre-season training next Tuesday.
But he insisted: "I can assure supporters we will strengthen the squad with quality signings over the summer.
"It is just that, at the moment, it is a naturally quiet time.
"Everyone is away on holiday and that goes for players, managers and, of course, chief executives.
"There has also been a big tournament (Euro 2008) taking place which delays matters as well.
"But there there is no need to panic. Not much will happen until the middle of July.
"We know what we want. It has been discussed between myself and Harry, and it is now about waiting for those targets to become available and taking it from there."
Pompey have already had a £9million package-deal turned down to sign Liverpool and England striker Crouch.
Redknapp would also jump at the chance to sign Wright-Phillips - perhaps on a season-long loan - depending on the plans of new Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Manchester City's Richard Dunne appears set to agree a new deal at Eastlands but Redknapp is also keen on French centre back Kaboul - provided Tottenham drop the price on the player they signed for £8.3 million from Auxerre a year ago.
Redknapp, facing an increased fixture list with Pompey's first UEFA Cup campaign, is reluctant to lose any of his present squad but Wembley hero Kanu may have to settle for another one-year contract with an option for one more rather than the straight two-year deal he craves.
