The 23-year-old Australia youth international striker was pulled from Wanderers’ 16-man squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Central Coast just hours before kick-off in relation to poor standards at training.

Popovic later explained it was a footballing decision, stating “we feel we want more in training” from Bulut.

Bulut was included in Wanderers’ 18-man squad for the trip to Perth Glory on Sunday, with Lachlan Scott omitted.

“We’ve still got another session today and tomorrow. We’ll assess the training,” Popovic said.

“Kerem has been back training this week. He’s looked good.

“He’s training better than what he did last week, so that’s a good improvement.

“We’ve still got two sessions to go, so still a bit of work to do today and tomorrow to see who’ll travel.”

Popovic was happy with his attacking midfield trio of Mitch Nichols, Nicolas Martinez and Jumpei Kusukami who are beginning to link up well.

“You can see it’s getting better, game by game,” he said.

“The more they play together on the field the more the fluency will improve and the understanding of each other’s game will improve.

“That’s across the board, there’s new players.”

Robbie Cornthwaite’s poor back pass proved costly in last round’s draw with Central Coast.

It’s not the first time a defensive mistake savaged the Wanderers this term and Popovic said the side would eradicate those errors.

“You’re always working hard to improve,” he said.

“At the moment isolated mistakes are being punished. That’s how it is for now.

“We have to make sure if that happens again, we’ve done well enough to still be able to win the game.

“Slowly but surely throughout the year you’ll see less and less mistakes from the team.”
