The 28-year-old Sydney-born man, who has played for Australia and Uruguay at youth level and has dual nationality, is expected to arrive in Dubai on Tuesday for a medical according to Sport360.

The forward can join Al Wasl as an Asian Football Confederation player due to his dual nationality, with the club already having filled their three player non-Asian foreign quota.

Porta, who left Australia to return to Uruguay with his immigrant family at age one, has previously been linked with the Socceroos.

In December 2007, speaking through an interpreter, Porta told the Sydney Morning Herald he could be interested in playing for Australia.

"I would have to think about that … If someone from Australia spoke to me, I would then sit down with my management team and work out what is the best thing for me to do," Porta said.

"That would make my decision for me, but of course someone has to ask me first."
