Mooy is dominating for both club and country after being nominated as Championship Player of The Month for Huddersfield Town in August.

And with the star midfielder acting as the playmaker as his team lead the Championship with one loss from eight games.

“I’m not surprised, I’ve said it all along and I don’t know why we should be and the only surprise is that he wasn’t picked up by a Premier League club, but that’s okay, I’m sure it’ll happen at some point,” Postecoglou said.

“Maybe he’ll get Huddersfield up and I’m sure they’ll sign him, but it’s no surprise to me, if anything I think he’s got more in him, they haven’t seen his goals yet, he’ll start scoring a few as well.”

Mooy narrowly missed the Championship/Premiership double with Melbourne City last campaign with the midfielder contributing 11 goals.

A contract with parent club Manchester City follwed before he was handed to Huddersfield on loan.

Postecoglou said he was impressed with the standard in Europe which he compared to Australia’s domestic league.

He also rubbished claims Mooy’s weakness was his pace and said his success was an indication of how difficult the A-League was.

“We’ve had very good footballers who have come here and have struggled, we shouldn’t continually seek validation about our competition,” he said.

“Trust me, watch some football from Europe, it’s hard to watch and it’s very poor in standard. I’m not just talking about the UK.

“I’ve just come back from Europe and I won’t mention the clubs, but I saw a couple of first division games and seriously, I could’ve walked out at half-time and that’s not a knock on them, that’s paying credit to the level of our competition.

“If a player does well in our competition, it means he’s got to be a good footballer, there’s no reason they couldn’t play it at a good level abroad.”

The Socceroos continue the final phase of their 2018 World Cup Qualification later this month when they travel to Jeddah to face Saudi Arabia before returning to face Japan in Melbourne.

Both games are crucial to Australia as they lead the table on goal difference, just ahead of their next opponents.

Postecoglou made just three changes to the squad selected against Iraq and UAE earlier this month. Craig Goodwin, Jimmy Jeggo and Bailey Wright have all been recalled with Apo Giannou, Nathan Burns and Josh Risdon making way.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou was not overly concerned with goalkeeper Maty Ryan who went down during a training session with club side Valencia last week.

He said the glovesman would be ready to go against Saudi Arabia.

“The medical report from Valencia is that he should be back training next week and should be available for selection the weekend before our camp,” he said.

“So if he’s available for selection for them he’s available for selection for us, but as always with these squads, we’re announcing two or three weeks out from the fixture, players still have to get through a fair bit before they come into camp, so we monitor everyone, so at this point there’s nothing that rules him out.”
