Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou has urged Matthew Spiranovic to find a new club if he wants to continue with the national team.
Spiranovic was left out of the 23-man squad to face Syria in their crucial World Cup play-off next month.
The 29-year-old defender is currently on the books at Hangzhou Greentown, who play in the second division of Chinese football.
But Postecoglou has told Spiranovic he must be playing at a higher level if he wants to be picked in the future.
"We had him last camp," Postecoglou said on Wednesday. "I thought he did OK, but playing where he does, it’s a different team play to what we want to play.
"We were really keen to push on in the football we’re playing.
"Spira’s an experienced guy and he’s working hard at his club.
"I’m hoping that he plays at a higher standard in the near future and he’ll come back into calculations."
