The Premier League have announced that any potential third-place play-off between Arsenal and Chelsea will take place at Villa Park.
Arsene Wenger's men narrowly trail their third-placed London rivals going into the final game of the season and the sides could end the campaign on the same points, goal difference, goals for and goals against.
Should that happen, a play-off will be held on May 26 to decide which team will progress directly to the UEFA Champions League group stages, and which team will have to go through the qualifiers.
For a play-off to occur, Chelsea must draw their final fixture against Everton while Arsenal must win by a single goal having scored twice more than Rafa Benitez's team when they take on Newcastle United.
The Stamford Bridge outfit will hope to avoid such an outcome, however, as they have a post-season friendly clash with Manchester City in St Louis, USA scheduled for May 23.
Arsenal could yet miss out on a top-four finish, with their local rivals Tottenham just one point behind them going into the last game.
A play-off has never previously been needed in Premier League history.
