Western Sydney Wanderers may only have one win in five matches but coach Tony Popovic is happy with their progress.
Wanderers claimed a 2-2 draw away to Perth Glory on Sunday, a result which Popovic labeled a “good point” to move up to sixth spot.
Despite missing out on the three points, Popovic hailed his newlook side’s improvement as it continues to jell.
“They’re confident, there’s a lot of belief in that group,” Popovic said.
“They know they’re playing well. Of course you want to win every match but step by step we’re improving that’s for sure.
“It’s a new group and it takes time.”
Wanderers went ahead in the first minute through marquee Nicolas Martinez before Glory hit back with goals from Alex Grant and Andy Keogh.
In-form striker Brendon Santalab leveled things up in the second half, for his fourth goal of the season.
“What he’s doing is not a surprise to us,” Popovic said.
“Whether he’s on the bench or he starts, it’s always for the good of the team.”
Speaking about the point, Popovic insisted he was pleased to claim a draw against a quality opponent.
“In the end it’s away from home, it’s a tough place to come,” he said.
“We’ll assess the game and look at a few things we could’ve done better.
“We came back after being 2-1 down away from home which is not easy so it’s a good point.”
