Verbeek is in Shanghai watching the Olyroos in the so-called Group of Death. A goal from Ruben Zadkovich earned Australia a 1-1 draw against Serbia in their opening game of the tournament last night.

The national coach said: "I was quite pleased with the result. It was a tough game.

"I'm very pleased with all the games they have had to play (in the build up)and the way they are growing (as players) and gaining international experience."

Verbeek admits the Olyroos have a big challenge on their hands but knows they will give everything they have to try and reach the next stage.

"It is quite a tough group but we know they will 100 per cent give everything."

Argentina is the next challenge for the Olyroos and Verbeek will be watching closely to see how individuals measure up against Messi and company.

He said: "It will be very interesting to see how they play against Argentina."

But the challenge to the youngsters is clear. "This is the next generation and they have to show themselves," said Verbeek.
