Day one of the two-day camp was held at Valentine Sports Park, the headquarters of Football NSW, with NPL players from around Australia being put through a series of on and off-field testing.

Caltex Socceroos High Performance Team member Fabine Ehrmann said players would be monitored over the next two days in the same manner as the Australian national team.

“We’ve got real data from the Socceroos, A-League and Olyroos that we can compare to whatever the guys do on the pitch”, he said

“So we can tell them if you are playing as a right winger, this is what Robbie Kruse would do in a game and this is what you are currently doing in a game and this is the level that you have to get to.

“If they are playing a small sided game or particular passing drills there will already be players that stand out because they can do more high intensity action than others.”

Former Australian youth international and Stirling Lions winger Teeboy Kamara is hoping to kick-start his A-League career again after making his A-League debut with Adelaide United in 2012.

“I feel pretty exited being here,” he said. “It doesn’t make a difference to how I’m going to perform or how I’m going to treat other people. I’m still going to respect them and play like it’s the last game I play in my life. I’m just grateful to be back in the system and thanks to everyone in Perth who voted for me and elected me.

“So now I’m just going to give everything that I can.”

Blacktown City striker Jonathon Grozdanovski said the most exciting part of the competition was that it gave him a chance to be in a top level environment.

It’s good to see how the Socceroos do it,” said the 20-year-old. “It was good to have professionals doing the testing, they live and breathe all this kind of stuff.  And for us so we get to see where we stand against other professionals.

“It’s great exposure for all the boys. Getting all the best 24 in all Australia to one place and having to train, test and play games is a great opportunity for everybody.”

Over the next two days media training sessions will be led by Fox Sports’ Adam Peacock.

While former Socceroos Ante Milicic, John Kosmina, Craig Foster and Sydney FC Head Youth League Coach Rob Stanton will select the winner.
