Nasser Al-Khelaifi has been brought in by new owners, the Qatar Investment Authority, to take on the day-to-day running of the club and he believes targeting emerging talent is the way forward.

He told L'Equipe: "We are here with defined objectives and strategies.

"We particularly want to unearth the next Messi.

"We don't want to recruit Messi himself but rather invest in the great talents of tomorrow."

Al-Khelaifi, who has sanctioned a big-money offer for Lille playmaker Eden Hazard, has relatively modest ambitions for the short-term.

He added: "We want to be in the Champions League next season so we will have to finish in the top three in Ligue 1.

"All clubs dream of being champions but the priority each year is the Champions League."

PSG finished fourth in the 2010/11 campaign and will compete in the Europa League next season.
