Having won their opening four fixtures, the Rotterdam club fell to pieces against the defending champions as goals by Kenneth Perez (two), Edison Mendez and Danny Koevermans secured the spoils.

The win sees PSV join Ajax at the top of the table, with the title-holders also yet to concede this season, while Feyenoord slip to third.

The hosts did not have it all their own way in the early stages, and after Perez fired over from 25 yards, PSV goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was forced to make an agile save from Roy Makaay.

But PSV gradually began to take a stranglehold on the match and broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Perez volleyed in with his left foot.

The hosts added to their tally four minutes later with Mendez driving home from eight yards after a neat cross from Danko Lazovic.

Feyenoord thought they had pulled a goal back moments later through Makaay, but the strike was disallowed after Nicky Hofs was adjudged to have controlled the ball with his hand before supplying the pass for his team-mate.

And the chance came back to haunt the visitors a minute before the interval when Perez made it 3-0 with another left-footed shot which ricocheted off the right post and into the net.

PSV continued to run the show in the second half and Lazovic was unfortunate not to add a fourth in the 52nd minute with his effort coming back off the upright.

And the Serbian's luck deserted him again soon after when his drive was turned away by AZ goalkeeper Henk Timmer.

Feyenoord managed to hold the PSV attack at bay until two minutes from time when Koevermans provided the finish to a Jan Kromkamp cross to seal the win.
