PSV Eindhoven 2 Heracles Almelo 0
EINDHOVEN, April 6 (Eredivisie) - The champagne remains on ice for PSV Eindhoven despite a comfortable home win against Heracles Almelo on Sunday afternoon.
For the second weekend in succession, PSV went into their game knowing a win coupled with a defeat for Ajax would see them retain their Eredivisie crown.
But for the second weekend in succession, Ajax won, 4-1 at home to De Graafschap on this occasion.
PSV, who are five points clear with two games left, can finally claim the crown for the fourth year in a row with victory at home to FC Twente in their next fixture.
Three points against Heracles was never in doubt once Timmy Simons opened the scoring for PSV in the 12th minute. Jefferson Farfan made it 2-0 with 10 minutes to go.
Simons' goal came from the first real opportunity for either side, the Belgium international firing home from 18 yards.
Heracles keeper Martin Pieckenhagen had no chance with the goal but he distinguished himself five minutes later with a fine stop to prevent Danny Koevermans from doubling PSV's lead.
Koevermans came close again after 27 minutes with a drive which flashed narrowly over the bar.
And Holland international Koevermans was denied for a third time two minutes before half-time when his shot was blocked by Heracles defender Emanuel Boakye.
The second period started in similar fashion, Koevermans firing wide after good work from Ibrahim Afellay.
The Heracles goal was eventually breached again after 80 minutes when Koevermans made up for his profligacy with the pass which Farfan converted with a clinical finish.
