Tough Turk Ersan Gülüm kept on playing against Melbourne Victory despite breaking a rib and puncturing his lung in a clash with Carl Valeri, Adelaide United revealed today.
The pair collided in a crunching tackle in the 78th minute of the bruising encounter at Adelaide Oval on Friday night which repeatedly threatened to boil over.
Gülüm was floored by the collision - but still managed to get up and play out the remainder of the match despite the serious injury.
Medics this morning confirmed that he had broken a rib which had subsequently punctured his lung and have ruled him out of action while he recovers.
The club added: "Gülüm will now see a respiratory specialist to plan his return to football."
