Talisman Adel Taarabt scored twice to lead Harry Redknapp's side to three points from a match for the first time this Premier League season, meaning the Londoners climbed a point above Reading into 19th place.

And despite QPR still being five points from safety, Fernandes was delighted with the game and praised Redknapp's unbeaten record since taking over at Loftus Road, saying the result was long overdue.

"I am a very relieved man. That is the best Christmas present ever," he told reporters.

"That is all I wanted for Christmas - three points. It was a great performance, it was awesome. I think Fulham only had one shot and they scored that goal.

"It was a great team effort, they deserved it. We've been threatening for a while and what a way to get the winning goal."

Taarabt scored two second-half goals including a delightful effort which saw him dribble from midfield before curling the ball home, and Fernandes was full of praise for the Moroccan and his team-mates: "Adel was awesome, the defence played well and everyone put their heart into it.

"It is looking good and we're undefeated under Harry. I feel like I have won the championship."
