Depending on other games of the round, a win and favourable results could see Strikers leapfrog Redlands City Devils to second spot or Whitsunday Miners could take a place in the league’s top half.

NQ Razorbacks take on Capricorn Cougars in the other evening kick-off, full of confidence after a resounding performance against top placed Sunshine Coast FC last weekend, even though they ended up on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline. Goalkeeper Chris Davis will make his debut after returning home for a break from his US college scholarship with Mount St Mary’s University, near Washington. Joshua Searle (hip) and Luke Rowell (groin) are in doubt for the Razorbacks after suffering their respective injuries against the Sunshine Coast. Cougars are without some of their key players too with Roy Bob suspended, and Tristan Fraser and Clayton Rowland still injured.

Olympic FC head into their clash with Bundaberg Spirit in their best form of the season, winning their last three games, and scoring 11 goals on their way. Spirit, on the other hand, sit bottom of the ladder and will be keen to upset the Brisbane side again, having beaten them 2-1 in Round 8. That win saw Bundaberg lifted off the wooden spoon spot, and will be hoping for a repeat performance but will be without hardworking midfielder Laurie Stephenson who is serving a one match ban for his two yellow cards against the Strikers last weekend.

Logan United, also in the form of their season, travel to the Sunshine Coast to take on the league’s only unbeaten side, Sunshine Coast FC. After a draw with Redlands City Devils and a win over Whitsunday Miners, United accrued more points in two games as they had in all games prior. Sunshine Coast emerged 8-0 winners last time the two sides met, but if United could take any points from the Kawana-based side, it would be the biggest upset of the season. The match is also significant as it marks the first game as permanent Head Coach of Sunshine Coast FC for George Cowie, after deputising since Round 6.

The final game of the round sees Redlands City Devils face Queensland Academy of Sport at home. QAS have Tyler Thurtell back from suspension and welcome back captain Michael Angus after recovering from an illness that saw him miss last week’s 4-0 loss to Olympic FC. Last time these two sides played, Devils won by a single goal, well-taken after a defensive error and the young QAS boys will be looking to push the second-placed team again. Barry Moran, who has scored in both games since his return from Ireland for a month including a spectacular strike against the Cougars last week, will be the one to watch.
