NQ Razorbacks defeated Bundaberg Spirit 2-0, with David Mayes scoring just before half-time and Paul Sapelli just before the final whistle to give the points to the side from Townsville. The result leaves Spirit at the bottom of the table, and will need at least a draw in the catch up round to avoid the wooden spoon. Razorbacks, on the other hand, will be anxiously anticipating the score between Brisbane Strikers and Sunshine Coast FC in next week’s catch up round to see whether they make the major or minor semi final, having done everything they can in the season’s regular fixtures.

Queensland Academy of Sport bounced back from their heavy defeat last week, instead of conceding seven goals, this time they hit seven past Logan United. Two each from Tommy Oar and Elliott Ronto, and single strikes from Joshua McVey, Bobby Russell and Zac Anderson on his return from injury completed the scoring. Logan’s consolation was scored by one of their most consistent performers this season, Nobuhiro Iwami.

Olympic FC came from behind to beat Capricorn Cougars at home, scoring three goals in 15 minutes. Johno Sauer opened the scoring, and Daniel Cox’s second half of the season revival continued, netting the Cougars’ second, but Shane Coffey’s ninth goal of the campaign plus goals from stand-in captain Chris Hagell and Julian Zullo were enough to seal the comeback.

Scottish defender Lewis MacKinnon hit a first half hat-trick for the Sunshine Coast FC in their 7-1 demolishing of Whitsunday Miners. The Miners rarely threatened George Cowie’s side, but managed to get one back through Troy Mundy. Captain Ryan Smith, Ben Knight, Tyson Holmes and Michael Scarff were also on the scoresheet for the Fire.

Brisbane Strikers beat Redlands City Devils a convincing 3-0 on Sunday night, keeping pressure on NQ Razorbacks for the coveted second place and holding Redlands scoreless for only the second time this season. An early goal from Russell Woodruffe and a brace from Gareth Musson ensured the win for the Strikers.

Also at Perry Park, prior to the QSL clash, Queensland Roar were defeated 2-1 by Central Coast Mariners in the Hyundai A-League Pre-Season Cup. The Roar’s only goal scorer? Former Brisbane Striker Michael Zullo.
