Having sweltered in temperatures of more than 35 degrees in the last few days, the Hindmarsh boys will take to the field on Wednesday with the mercury in single figures.

A shock to the system for some but Galekovic isn’t too concerned as he’s chilled out between the sticks on more than one occasion.

Goalkeepers have their own unique challenges when it comes to climatic conditions but Galekovic has previous experience of keeping out the cold.

Speaking to au.fourfourtwo.com he joked: “You just have to make sure your hands don’t freeze up inside your gloves. Keep your fingers moving.

“No, I don’t think it should really be a problem. I’m not concerned as I’ve played in Portugal during the winter where it could get down to no more than two degrees.”

Should Galekovic get the nod between the sticks on Wednesday night it will be the Champions League taste he briefly thought he might have surrendered.

He said: “It’s funny but when Adelaide first phoned me to talk about signing me from Melbourne I thought that I’d then miss the Champions League.

"It then occurred to me that Adelaide had also qualified though so that was a relief.

“I think I was going a bit stale at Melbourne and I’ve really loved it since making the switch to Adelaide.

“I’m looking forward to the experience and I think it really helps that we’ve got quite a few of the boys who took part in the competition last year. That experience is important.

“We know that only the top team in the group goes through so it’s going to be a tough battle between the sides. Every match and point is so important.

"We really want to get off to a good start and as a goalkeeper you’re always looking first to that clean sheet. You achieve that and that’s at least a point in the bag."

He added: “I think it’s going to be very, very close and could come right down to the wire in terms of who comes out on top.

“We know the staff have watched Pohang Steelers so we should be prepared and be well aware of their strengths and weaknesses.”

United will be without Paul Agostino who continues to recover from injury while Sasa Ognenovski and Alvin Ceccoli miss out due to bereavement and an impeding birth respectively.
