CARLOS Queiroz is eager to maintain his 100% record as Portugal coach, but insists there is 'no room for error' as the group favourites travel to Malta in their opening 2010 World Cup qualifier.
Portugal only scraped a 1-0 win the last time they visited the island during their 1994 World Cup qualification campaign and the former Manchester United assistant coach is determined to start his spell at the helm with a victory.
"There is no room for error because the competition is short and it doesn't allow you to slip up," said Queiroz.
The former Real Madrid boss will be without injured star Cristiano Ronaldo, but has called up promising Sporting Lisbon striker Yannick Djalo and recalled midfielder Maniche.
The hosts' cause will not be helped by the absence of defender Ian Azzopardi, who will miss the game to care for his ill father.
Veteran striker Henrik Larsson is aiming to help Sweden reach the World Cup as they open their qualifying campaign against Albania.
The 36-year-old is set to win his 100th cap against the European minnows and is determined to play in South Africa in two years' time.
He said: "I've said before that I will play for as long as my body feels okay, and that still stands.
"I hope to continue for a couple of years, but you never know what could happen."
Coach Lars Lagerback has hailed the former Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United forward, claiming that he is an essential part of the team.
"He's a very good all rounder and has a good footballing intellect. It is great having him in the squad."
Lagerback has called up Basle left-back Behrang Safari after experienced duo Anders Svensson and Christian Wilhelmsson picked up injuries in training.
Denmark face Hungary in the final encounter in Group One in Budapest.
