REAL Madrid coach Juande Ramos is remaining calm about his future as speculation continues to mount about who will be in the Bernabeu hotseat next season.
Ramos, having been brought in on a six-month contract in December, has made a strong claim to continue in the post after guiding Madrid to a hugely impressive - if ultimately unsuccessful - chase of Primera Division leaders Barcelona during the second half of the season.
However, heavy defeats to Barca in La Liga and Liverpool in the Champions League, combined with some disappointing recent performances, means Ramos has seemingly slipped down the pecking order.
Ramos is not totally out of the frame though, and with varying reports about the likelihood of coaches such as Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger and Carlo Ancelotti being tempted to the Bernabeu, the former Sevilla and Tottenham boss could yet be the best option for whoever wins this summer's presidential elections.
Whatever happens though, Ramos is keeping a cool head, saying: "If I have to go, then I'll be happy, and if I have to stay because the future presidential candidates are interested in my services, then I'll also be happy.
"I'm aware of the contract that I signed and it was for six months."
Ramos has already been linked with other sides, most notably Madrid's neighbours Atletico, but he insists there is nothing in the pipeline for next season yet.
"I've done absolutely nothing, not with Atletico nor with another team, because at this moment I'm the Madrid coach until June 30," he added on television channel La Sexta.
Ramos may or may not be in charge next season, but he still has strong views about what path Madrid should take this summer - and he has warned against making superstar signings without also looking at the bigger picture.
"What you need to make is a team, a group. There's no point in signing a series of individuals," he said.
Madrid complete their home campaign with a match against Real Mallorca tomorrow.
In the corresponding fixture two seasons ago Madrid ended a four-year wait for the league title after beating Mallorca 3-1 on a dramatic last day of the campaign, but there will be a different mood at tomorrow's match.
With nothing at stake for either side - Madrid are guaranteed to finish second and Mallorca are safe from relegation and cannot get into Europe - the match could be more of a final farewell for those Madrid players and coaching staff who may not be at the Bernabeu next season, with big changes being mooted this summer.
The fallen champions will want to end their home campaign on a high note though, with Ramos admitting the players have been hurt by criticism of their recent performances, which has seen Madrid lose successive matches to Barca (6-2), Valencia (3-0) and Villarreal (3-2).
"The squad are affected by the comments that have been coming out in recent times," Ramos said.
"It's understandable that the level of the team has dropped a little (following the title loss), but we feel that we've done everything in our hands to achieve the objectives that were set for us."
