Boyd has hit 44 goals for Rangers since joining from Kilmarnock in January last year, but he has yet to find the net against the club`s deadliest rivals.

The 23-year-old has another chance on Saturday when the Bank of Scotland Premier League champions visit Ibrox.

But he told the club's official website, www.rangersfc.co.uk: "Every time I have played against Celtic I have said that I will score in the lead-up to the game.

"So this time around I will say that I will not and hope that my fortunes change and I will get a goal." Boyd is viewing the game as an opportunity to prove that Celtic are not as far ahead as the 12-point gap at the top of the SPL shows.

Rangers are unbeaten in the league since Walter Smith replaced Paul Le Guen in January and want to repeat their 1-0 win at Parkhead in March.

Boyd said: "All the boys are really looking forward to the game and it is another chance for us to show that we have turned the corner.

"Hopefully we can show on Saturday that we are closer to Celtic than our league position shows.

"It is also important for us to keep our 12-game unbeaten run going and keep the momentum going."

Boyd is hoping to partner Dado Prso up front in the Croatian`s last chance to play in an Old Firm match before quitting Ibrox in the summer.

Prso is struggling with tonsilitis but Gers boss Walter Smith will give the striker every chance of making the game.
