The Old Firm clash promised to have even more ferocity than normal given there was a trophy on the line, and the fixture did not disappoint, with Serbian Nikica Jelavic striking the winner past Hoops goalkeeper Fraser Forster in the 98th minute.

Rangers had earlier taken the lead in normal time when Steve Davis struck a 24th minute goal, but Joe Ledley had Celtic level seven minutes later and the score remained 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Forster can count himself unlucky as both goals he conceded in the final - including Jelavic's winner - rebounded into the net off the post, with Davis' shot from long range giving them the upper hand.

Ledley's header from six yards restored parity for Celtic, but Rangers fans thought they had been granted the perfect avenue to regain their lead when referee Craig Thomson pointed to the spot moments later, seemingly for a foul by Thomas Rogne on Jelavic.

But Thomson changed his mind on awarding the spot kick, and rather, he booked Jelavic for simulation much to the chagrin of Rangers fans, but it was the Serb who ensured they left Hampden Park with their 27th League Cup.
