Trezeguet is France's third-highest all-time goalscorer with 34 goals in 71 appearances and netted 20 times as Juventus finished third in Serie A in the recently-completed season.

However, the 30-year-old, who scored the golden goal which clinched the Euro 2000 crown for Les Bleus, was absent when Domenech named his squad on Sunday.

"I can't understand it - he is a fantastic player," said Ranieri.

"He is a predator in the area - he is a goalscorer."

Trezeguet, who has played for the Turin club for eight seasons, has netted 130 goals in little more than 200 appearances.

"Every year he has been tremendous - I don't understand," added Ranieri.

Trezeguet is among 19 Bianconeri players on the post-season tour to Hong Kong and Australia.

And Ranieri is pleased his star striker can rest this summer and recuperate ahead of next season's Champions League qualifying rounds.

"Of course, I'm happy because I have Trezeguet for next season," Ranieri added.

"I have the qualifiers for the Champions League and it will be very important to have a lot of players."

In contrast, Ranieri was delighted with Alessandro Del Piero's call-up to Roberto Donadoni'sItaly squad for Euro 2008.

"I'm very, very happy, because he played very, very well this season and he deserved it," added Ranieri.

Del Piero is joined in the Azzurri squad by Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini and Mauro Camoranesi.

"It's important for us to have a lot of players in the national team," Ranieri added.

The 56-year-old admitted he was pleased with the third-placed finish in Serie A in his first season in charge.

"For us it was important to achieve third place," he said.

"We started very well and we maintained that place until the end of the season.

"It was important for me, for the players, for the club, for all of our fans."

Juventus play South China in Hong Kong on Thursday.
