Starting XI:
Mark Schwarzer: 8 - Was not at fault for Ghana's goal and kept the scores at 1-1 with a great diving save just before half-time. Also made several important saves in the second half to ensure the Socceroos picked up their first point of the tournament.
David Carney: 5 - Came in ahead of the older Scott Chipperfield at left-back after Chipperfield was torn apart at left-back but does not appear to be the answer to the Socceroos' problems on the left-side of defence. Defended okay but looked far too shaky in possession and repeatedly gave the ball away.
Lucas Neill: 7 - A huge improvement on his surprisingly poor first up showing against Germany and was back to his commanding best. Australia will need a similar game from him in the do or die third match against Serbia on Wednesday.
Craig Moore: 7 - Spoiled a superb game by picking up a yellow card late in the game - his second of the tournament - which will automatically rule him out of the must win clash against Serbia and his absence in that game will leave a huge hole in Australia's defence.
Luke Wilkshire: 6 - Solid without being spectacular and missed the Socceroos' best chance of the second half when he was one-on-one against the Ghana keeper but saw his shot blocked.
Mark Bresciano: 7 - Showed the folly of Pim Verbeek dropping him for the opening match against Germany by setting up Australia's goal with a great free-kick before tiring and being substituted in the second half.
Brett Holman: 8 - Australia's unlikely goalscoring hero with only his third goal in 33 games for the Socceroos but his second in a month following his late winner in the final warm-up friendly in Australia against New Zealand last month. Never stopped running or trying.
Jason Culina: 5 - Looked better suited back in the holding role in midfield after being used on the left against Germany but had little impact.
Carl Valeri: 7 - It was his great run that won the free-kick that led to Holman's goal and has done more than enough in two games to so far to suggest he is now definitely in Australia's best XI.
Brett Emerton: 6 - Did not have the impact he had against Germany which was hardly surprising given this was only his second match back following a long lay-off and he may not have fully recovered from a tough game first-up against the Germans. But never stopped trying as usual.
Harry Kewell: 6 - Lasted just 25 minutes in his much-anticipated comeback game after being sent off for a deliberate handball right on the goal line to deny Ghana a clear goal scoring opportunity which led to a penalty and their goal. May have appeared unlucky as the ball hit him high on the arm but he did move his arm towards the ball which means a sending off under the rules. Simply found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and will now miss the decisive game against Serbia.
Subs: Scott Chipperfield: 7 - Dropped for Carney at left-back but was thrown forward in the second half by Verbeek and almost scored with his first touch in the 67th minute but just could not keep his header down. Australia looked better when he came on and he should regain his place for the final group game.
Josh Kennedy: 6 - Finally got his chance, admittedly only as a second half sub, after surprisingly not being used against Germany and immediately looked dangerous with his ability win headers and should be included from the start against Serbia.
Nikita Rukavystya: 4 - Only came on for the last seven minutes and had little impact.
