Well over 1,000 football tragics have been straw-polled for their views on the A-League, the Socceroos and our World Cup bid.

As crowds have dropped in the A-League this season, a staggering 51 per cent of respondents blamed fixture scheduling and kick-off times. The overall cost of attending, poor standard of play and lack of atmosphere were also liable.

The A-League marquee system was knocked in the survey, with 86 per cent of people believing it is not being used to its best effect and 74 per cent of respondents thinking this is effecting attendances.

An A-League positive did come in the form of the two new franchises this season, Gold Coast United and North Queensland Fury, with 93 per cent of fans believing them to be a positive addition. In terms of the next franchise, Canberra garnered an impressive 53 per cent of backing as the best location for the next team.

On to the World Cup and Aussies are backing Spain to take out the top honour with 50 per cent of people tipping the European champions to win on the world stage. As for the Socceroos, many fans believe we will either do the same or worse than in 2006, with only 15 per cent thinking we can go better in South Africa 2010 than in Germany 2006.

Concerning our World Cup bid, there is confidence in the ranks with 84 per cent saying we'll host the tournament in 2018 or 2022. As for the factors working against us, sabotage from rival codes, lack of football specific stadiums, lack of support from mainstream media and even Nicole Kidman have been cited as reasons our bid could be derailed.
