Betis, playing the last game of their three-match stadium ban in Seville's La Cartuja, bid farewell to their temporary home with little style, after goals by Daniel Guiza and Javi Casquero handed all three points to visiting Getafe.

To compound their misery, Betis had Marcos Assuncao sent off for a second bookable offence in stoppage time at the end of the 90 minutes.

The hosts, playing at the neutral venue after being banished from their own stadium after a fan threw a bottle from the crowd and knocked Sevilla coach Juande Ramos unconscious during a Copa del Rey match earlier this season, remain five points above the drop zone following this defeat.

Victory for Getafe, meanwhile, means Bernd Schuster's troops remain very much in the hunt for a UEFA Cup berth with five games remaining in the season.

The Azulones beat struggling Real Sociedad 1-0 at home last weekend, and appear to be mounting an effective late charge to secure European football next season.

Betis began the match with great industry, passing the ball with purpose and poise as they tried to dismantle the visiting defence.

Getafe stood strong, however, and in the opening 15 minutes Betis were restricted to a 30-yard drive by Marcos Assuncao that was tipped to safety by Roberto Abbondanzieri in the Getafe goal.

From the resulting corner taken by Assuncao, Juanito Gutierrez reacted fastest to stick out a boot but his effort sailed wide of the right-hand upright.

But first blood went the way of Getafe just moments later, Manu del Moral creating the opportunity with a pinpoint centre.

Guiza collected the ball in front of the home net and showed great composure to finish low and firm beyond the advancing Pedro Contreras.

Fifteen minutes later it might well have been two.

Guiza again pulled the trigger, but this time the striker's effort was kept at bay by the stout Contreras.

But another goal was not too much longer in coming, and on 34 minutes the visitors doubled their advantage.

Casquero made the opening all by himself, creating space 25 yards from goal before firing home a tremendous right-footed effort that powered into the top left-hand corner of the goal.

Into the second half, Nacho Perez almost repeated the trick of team-mate Casquero with a thumping effort from long-range, but this time Contreras set himself well and gathered with ease.

On 53 minutes the hosts finally woke up, Germany international David Odonkor drilling in a right-footed effort from outside the area that fizzed just over the bar.

And the feeling that it was not to be Betis' day was confirmed five minutes later when Miguel Angel rattled the bar with yet another long-range attempt.

Betis pushed and probed in the final 20 minutes but Abbondanzieri pulled off two good saves in the 73rd minute to first deny Isidoro Gomez and then Assuncao, while Odonkor fired wide with the hosts' final chance of the match 12 minutes from time.

The day then lurched from bad to worse for Betis as Assuncao received his marching orders following two late bookings.
