Real Madrid fans want the club to bring Gareth Bale to the Bernabeu rather than invest in a new striker, a poll has revealed.
The survey, run by Spanish newspaper Marca, showed that 78 percent of over 3,000 Real supporters polled believe purchasing the Welshman should be the club's top priority in the close-season.
Real finished 15 points behind rivals Barcelona last term as the Catalan club clinched the domestic title, and a section of their fanbase think the Tottenham winger is the man that can help them overhaul the Camp Nou outfit next season.
The Spanish capital club have already brought in highly rated attacker Isco from Malaga in the transfer window, but Bale's versatility and eye for goal make him an attractive prospect.
Bale netted 21 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last term, almost a third of Tottenham’s total of 66.
And with Gonzalo Higuain looking likely to depart the Bernabeu, as Arsenal and Juventus fight for the Argentine’s signature, Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney have been linked with a move to Madrid, although the club’s support do not appear to deem it necessary.
An article on Marca's website read: "Bale's scoring ability is one of the reasons why Real fans do not crave the arrival of a man to compete with (Karim) Benzema and (Alvaro) Morata for next season in the line of attack.
"The fact that the Brit can play in almost every attacking position, find a clear path to goal and be a danger to opponents at set-pieces is reason enough for Real not to pursue signing Cavani, Luis Suarez, Rooney, (Sergio) Aguero and (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic."
Bale has long been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane, with Real seemingly favourites to secure his signature.
