The Frenchman's 71st-minute goal was his first since April and clinched a 1-0 win for the Red Bulls on Wednesday.

"It was exactly what you saw," Henry said. "I made a move, controlled the ball, great pass and a striker's instinct.

"I'm never scared to try anything, that's me, sometimes they come off.

"Like I said to the manager I needed to do something, I was pretty useless recently because of injuries and obviously not delivering so I had to do something today."

Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe was full of praise for the 34-year-old.

"It's an absolutely phenomenal goal," Backe said.

"Normally when you have that angle and you have to use your left foot for that kind of volley.

"On the bench you'll think it's going to go over the bar or something like that but it's an absolutely phenomenal strike. He's probably one of the few guys who can score those kinds of goals."

New York forward Sebastien Le Toux added: "I'm like a kid and he hits the winning goal, it's just great.

"I was just very happy for him. He scored a great goal after his comeback from his injuries.

"It's great for the team, it's great for him and I hope we are going to score some goals together."
