It's unclear at this stage which A-League teams Red Star would play, if any, or where they'd be based. However, it's also possible they could face the Olyroos, who will begin their preparations for London 2012 next year, or even state league sides.

Red Star is coached by Vladimir Petrovic, a club legend and former Arsenal player who coached against the Socceroos in 2008 in a dead rubber World Cup qualifier. That night, Petrovic's China defeated Australia 1-0 at ANZ stadium.

The Red and Whites toured Australia in 1985 and in 1977.

The club was listed as joint 27th in a list of the top 200 European clubs of the 20th century compiled by the International Federaration of Football History and Statistics.
