TOTTENHAM boss Harry Redknapp is happy for Ledley King to be called up for England but is concerned that Aaron Lennon will start next season injured unless he gets his groin problem sorted immediately.
Lennon was carrying the injury until it flared up recently, and Redknapp expects the winger to miss England's qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra, as well as the Under-21 European Championships in Sweden.
"If he's fit it's not a problem for him to play for the England seniors or Under-21s," Redknapp said. "I don't want to stop him playing for England, but at the moment I can't see it. He's not fit enough to train or play, he's miles away.
"I just hope we can get it sorted out in the summer. You don't want to be coming back for the start of next season and Aaron's not fit. It needs sorting out now."
King's call-up during the last international break caused a club-versus-country row as the centre-back cannot play matches in quick succession and would have missed Spurs' next game on his return to White Hart Lane.
That is not a problem this time, although Redknapp has warned England boss Fabio Capello that King would be unable to play in both games if he was called up.
"If he's fit, Ledley is up there with Rio Ferdinand and John Terry, who are the best," Redknapp said. "If England pick him, great, if he's fit to play. He would have to play and then not train.
"If Ledley played in the first game, he wouldn't be able to play in the second that's for sure because there would not be long enough for him to rest and recover. He can't recover in four days.
"Nobody's been in touch with me, but the England doctors are in touch with our doctors all the time now.
"It is in the hands of the club doctors and physios really as to whether he can play."
Redknapp is confident King's recent arrest would not be a factor in whether he is selected, adding: "Ledley is not the first player to have had a problem, though, so I'm sure all the nightclub business won't stop him."
With Lennon, Redknapp is uncertain whether the former Leeds player needs surgery.
"He keeps saying he doesn't need surgery, but I don't want him coming back for next season and it becoming clear he needs surgery, and then he's out for 10 weeks," he said.
"The specialist will examine him and he will decide whether Aaron needs surgery or not. The people who have seen him so far feel he doesn't need surgery, but Aaron's not fit so there has to be a problem there."
Lennon is out of the final Barclays Premier League clash of the season, against Liverpool.
Spurs need to win and hope that Everton defeat Fulham if they are to qualify for the Europa League.
"Fulham are in pole position, they are red-hot favourites, and it's going to be a tough one," he said.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has marked his return to form with a call-up to Brazil's squad for the Confederations Cup.
