Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp paid tribute to goalkeeper David James and the rest of the defence after his side beat Liverpool on penalties to win the Asia Cup.
The match finished goalless after 90 minutes and Pompey went on to win 4-2 after new signings Yossi Benayoun and Fernando Torres missed their spot-kicks.
"To get to penalties and nick it on penalties was great," said Redknapp.
"The keeper (James) was great and the two centre-halves were magnificent.
"I thought (Sylvain) Distin was superb and Sol Campbell is absolutely top class but all the back four worked hard. It was a good team effort, they all grafted."
Redknapp also revealed he was still looking at adding to his squad before the start of the Premier League season next month.
"There are areas we need to improve in if we are going to maintain our progress," he told Sky Sports.
"The new owner is doing everything in his power to push the club forward, we all are."
