TOTTENHAM boss Harry Redknapp today explained why Alan Hutton is set to miss Scotland's crucial clash against Holland.
Hutton, who has recovered from a foot injury, has not played since the friendly against Argentina in November and is due to make a comeback for Spurs reserves on Monday.
With the qualifier at the Amsterdam ArenA the following Saturday, Redknapp feels the Dutch game has come too soon - but added the right-back could still face Iceland four days later.
"I spoke to George Burley and he said he definitely wouldn't play him against Holland," Redknapp said.
"It's too quick. He'll play Monday night in the reserves against West Brom.
"He hasn't played one game. It's different joining in training to playing a game. He'll find out on Monday night how fit he is.
"He's a fit lad, he's a good athlete who can run all day but after Monday night he'll find he'll ache the next day."
Hutton has insisted he would have no fears playing, but Redknapp added: "He has not played a game yet, so I don't know you can work that out."
Hutton will return to a Spurs squad bolstered by the arrival of Pascal Chimbonda in the January transfer window, with Vedran Corluka currently Redknapp's first-choice right-back and Didier Zokora also playing there occasionally.
"There is competition from places and that is what it is about," Redknapp said. "That is why Manchester United, Liverpool and the top teams can afford to leave players out, to bring them in.
"Apart from three or four people, everyone else is up for changing all the time."
