Redknapp was the heavy favourite to succeed Fabio Capello following the Italian's sudden resignation from the England job in February.

The Football Association's decision to appoint West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson came as a surprise to many, as did the news Redknapp was not approached to discuss the vacancy.

"I would have taken it, but I was never approached," Redknapp said.

"I love club football. I was relieved I didn't get offered it."

"It's a great opportunity for Roy."
