The Reds play host to the Uzbek champions on Wednesday evening and despite knocking off Bunyodkor 2-1 on the road in the group stage, Galekovic insisted they want to get “as many goals as possible” in the first leg to make the most of their home advantage.

“It's tough there (in Tashkent). It's really hostile,” Galekovic told au.fourfourtwo.com.

“We know how hard it is to score goals up there, even though we did beat them 2-1, we only created two chances and scored two goals.

“You don't get many chances when you go there, so when you do you need to take them. We want to get a result here and hopefully get as many goals as we can.”

Adelaide has plenty of experience against Bunyodkor, having faced them twice in the group stage as well as in the semifinals of the 2008 ACL.

Galekovic, who has played in all of those matches, admitted the away trip to Bunyodkor's 8,460-capacity JAR Stadium was one of the toughest he'd faced in his career.

“It's a small little stadium. They pack it out. It's one of those places where you don't want to go, you're so far from home,” he said.

“Everyone is against you, 11 boys on the pitch versus everyone else. It's a place where you don't want to go chasing a result.”

Bunyodkor are currently 19 games into the Uzbek league season, where they currently sit top of the table.

Adelaide, meanwhile, have been ramping up their pre-season plans in an attempt to be match-fit for the clash but Galekovic admitted they would be at a disadvantage.

“Obviously they are going to be match fit and match hardened. We're probably not but in saying that we've had some quality games against Central Coast, Brisbane, Heart and Victory,” he said.

“We've had some quality games and the boys are at their fittest I've seen them in the past three to four years at the club.”

The Reds' pre-season form has been mostly positive, with wins over Central Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Heart in the past month.

Adelaide's 6-2 thrashing of champions Brisbane generated a lot of talk in A-League circles, however the freescoring game – where there could have been more goals - went against the Reds' defensive style in the ACL, where they only conceding twice in the group stage.

“We had a video session on that and we do need to get better. Teams like Bunyodkor will take those chances,” Galekovic said.

“We've got to get better and we've been training for it this week. Against the Mariners we did keep a clean sheet so that's good for Bunyodkor.”

The counter-attacking tactics Adelaide employed in the 2012 ACL group stage did differ to those seen by the club in the A-League and Galekovic conceded that had been a focus in pre-season again, arguably making the upcoming domestic competition a secondary focus.

“In terms of the way we play that's the way we're practicing in our practice games,” he said, referring to their defensive approach.

“We do play a defensive style in the ACL and it's a good way because it does get us results. It's about getting us tuned up for Bunyodkor and once the A-League starts then we'll start thinking about that.”
