Dodd set up the win with two first-half goals before sealing the result with another slick score minutes after the break.

It was the Reds' second victory in the Asian competition and ensured Carl Veart's last game for the South Australian club was a memorable one.

While the fleet-footed Dodd dominated the statistic sheet, it was an impressive effort by all of the team's midfielders and strikers.

Adelaide was allowed far too much space by the Vietnamese defence and could have been further in front if it had taken their opportunities in the first half.

The second half, though, became a shooting gallery session for the home side as Veart missed two easy chances within the box with others sharing his inaccuracy.

Despite the Reds' potency in attack, Dong Tam had its own chances to make the game a tighter one.

Antonio Rodrigues got plenty of ball and at times United's defenders were found napping.

Earlier, it took Dodd just seven minutes to put Adelaide onto the front foot.

His opportunity was sparked by a long midfield pass from Ang Costanzo and a cross from the left side by Lucas Pantelis.

And it didn't take long for Dodd to make his mark again. Some sharp passes from Pantelis and Dezi Giraldi released Dodd in the box.

He enjoyed the freedom and shot the ball under the diving Fabio Dos Santos at the 22nd minute mark.

Adelaide's dominance prompted a change from the Vietnamese side with Viet Thang Nguyen replacing Van Hung Nguyen at the 24th minute.

Adelaide continued to find plenty of space in attack with crosses and dangerous dissecting passes common place.

The home side's intensity dropped as the half progressed and Long Am had two strong chances to score.

An evasive Rodrigues got past Kristian Rees and kicked a ball to the right of Robbie Bajic at the 33rd minute.

Seven minutes later Bajic was then left high and dry by his team mates. The big goalkeeper had to dive for a loose ball leaving Kabanga Tshamala with a chance to score but his shot olled past the right hand of the goal.

Dong Tam made a promising start to the second half with Rodrigues finding space in the box before being called off-side.

He played on and kicked the ball into the back of the net, earning himself a yellow card. The undisciplined play proved costly for his side.

Bajic booted a long ball down the park which fell into the path of the in-form Dodd.

The number-13 showed pace to beat the Dong Tam defenders and then converted from a 45 degree angle on the right hand side.

The score killed what intensity was left in the contest as the Vietnamese defence became totally ineffective, allowing Matthew Kemp and Veart easy shots on goal.

Dong Tam had some late opportunities and showed some unorthodox play as they strived for a breakthrough goal.

Keeper Santos took a free-kick from just outside the box but missed his target.

But the real highlight of the second half came at the 87th minute as Veart was given a standing ovation as he was substituted off the pitch for the last time.
