Fifth-placed Reds extended their unbeaten run to five matches but are six points behind leaders Nagoya Grampus seven matches into the season.

Urawa, without Japan midfielder Keita Suzuki due to a fever, lacked cohesion and struggled to pile pressure on the visitors' goal.

Naohiro Takahara was denied by Omiya goalkeeper Koji Ezumi after 40 minutes before Denis Marques struck the post at the other end for the visitors.

Urawa's Yuichiro Nagai hit the bar with a header three minutes from time as Omiya held on.

Reds manager Gert Engels was disappointed with the result.

"I'm not content with this 0-0 result but we all played, trying to win to the end," he said.

"Our players looked worn out in the second half and couldn't move as quickly as they usually do."

Jubilo Iwata were held to a 1-1 draw by Oita Trinita.

Roberto put Oita ahead after 18 minutes but Hiroki Bandai equalised for the hosts 10 minutes into the second half.

Jubilo are without a win in the last three matches while Oita extended their winless streak to five.
