The defending Champions won their first game of the season last weekend, dismissing Wellington Phoenix 2-0 at home and now look to Brisbane Roar away on Sunday.

“The Champions League starts in February, so there’ll be times where we have to play two or three games in a week,” Galekovic told FourFourTwo.

“The earlier we start getting results the better, and we haven’t had the greatest start, we know that, so we have to make up for it between now and February, trying to get wins on the board.

“It’ll be tougher near the end of the season, but we’ve been in this situation before and we know how to handle it."

Last season, the Reds’ first win also came in Round 9 before they went on an extraordinary run to the capture the A-League double.

“People keep bringing up last season because of how many points we are on today, the same amount of points as last year, (but) it’s a different bunch of boys and a lot of new players at the club," Galekovic said.

“We boys that were here last year know what we can do and what momentum can do. The aim is to keep getting results and build momentum and get a good run of results.”

United were ravaged by injuries early this season losing Michael Marrone, Sergio Cirio, Henrique, Marcelo Carrusca and Nikola Mileusnic.

Jordan Elsey is out for the season with a knee injury while Jordan O’Doherty and Riley McGree are still recovering from ankle injuries.

Galekovic saw the positives and the opportunities it gave less experienced players.

“There’s been a lot of work for the older boys, a lot of older boys left last season but we’ve still got a good bunch at the club this season,” he said.

“We have to step up and help these younger boys come through and try to develop, doesn’t matter if you’re a captain, vice-captain or normal player.

“It’s our job to help the younger boys through, a lot of them got game time because of injuries so it’s good they’ve got game time and go show what they can do.

“They’ve got some potential, but some experienced boys are coming back now through injury and it’s good to have a lot of boys on the track and fighting for spots.”

Galekovic added: “It is important to get onto a good start, but there have been games this season where we’ve found ourselves in front and teams have caught us and we’ve drawn or lost, so it’s about a full game performance rather than 80 minutes and letting teams come back at us.”

He also praised coach Guillermo Amor for keeping a positive mindset towards the players.

“When he was at the club originally he got translated a bit but half way through last season there was no barrier, he speaks English to everyone now,” Galekovic said.

“His mindset is always the same, it doesn’t matter from two weeks ago to now or to when we’re winning games last season, he always thinks about the next game and he stays positive.

“He doesn’t have these times where one minute he yells at you and the next minute you’re friends, he has a very straight mindset and he always wants the best for the players.”
