Marrone’s new deal means the Adelaide local will remain with his hometown club until the end of the 2018/19 season.

After stints with the formerly named Melbourne Heart and Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenxin, Marrone returned to ply his trade with the Reds in February 2014.

In his second coming with Adelaide, the defender has enjoyed great success, lifting the inaugural Westfield FFA Cup in 2014 as well as winning the Premiers’ Plate and Championship double last year.

“It’s good being from Adelaide and I wanted to stay here and it was a really easy decision,” Marrone said.

“I had a great year last year with the memories of winning the grand final and I hope to do it again in the future.

“I’m really happy and it’s been really good the whole time I’ve been with Adelaide and I’m looking forward to playing here every week."

Adelaide United general manager of football Ante Kovacevic said the re-signing of Marrone was another step towards re-building the playing squad.

“Michael was integral to the success we had last season and being from South Australia is a significant positive for our club,” he said.

The 30-year-old has made 95 appearances for the Reds, scoring one goal across his two spells with the Club.

Marrone debuted for United in 2008 before a breakout 2009/10 campaign.
