ADELAIDE United’s Women’s Team will give home fans their first glimpse of what the new Westfield W-League is all about when the Reds take on the Newcastle Jets Women’s Team at Hindmarsh Stadium tonight.
Adding to the excitement of the girls playing their first game at home of the season is the match will be played as a curtain raiser to the Hyundai A-League blockbuster between Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory.
After going down to a Queensland Roar team that comprised of numerous Westfield Matildas in the opening round, United’s Women’s team will be hoping to use the experience of last week into the match with the Jets.
Adelaide United will be without three of its talented young players, Racheal Quigley, Angela Fimmano and Sian McLaren who are on international duty with the Young Matildas, however former Matildas goalkeeper Emma Wirkus returns from injury and has been included in the squad.
United’s squad will also be bolstered for the match with the addition of new signing April Mann, the 30 year old midfielder from Queensland having made 28 appearances for the Matildas between 2001 and 2004.
Mann will give United another option in the middle of the park and join the likes of Captain Di Alagich, striker Vicki Balomenos and goal scorer from last week Sharon Black in providing the team with another experienced campaigner.
The team had a training session at Hindmarsh Stadium late this afternoon to finalise preparations for tomorrow’s game, with the match against the Newcastle Jets set to kick-off at 4.45pm (ACDT).
Tickets for Adelaide United’s Westfield W-League, Hyundai A-League double tomorrow night are available through Venue*Tix.
