Clattenburg was stood down from officiating over the weekend after Chelsea accused the 37-year-old of using racist language towards Blues midfielder Mikel during the club's 3-2 defeat to Manchester United last month.

Referees' chief Mike Riley said Clattenburg, the subject of a police and Football Association investigation, would be best served by avoiding the spotlight.

"PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Board) was fully prepared to appoint Mark to matches this weekend," Riley said.

"However, having discussed this with him, we both consider that it is in Mark's best interests that he has this week away from officiating duties while he prepares to help the FA and police with their enquiries."
