Tulio Nicolini has incurred the wrath of his members after comments he made on Saturday, stating his belief that only two referees in the Peruvian league - Victor Hugo Rivera and Victor Hugo Carrillo - are up to standard.

Referees have not reported for August physical tests and are planning to sit out the local Apertura games next weekend.

They do intend to officiate in some midweek games but will wear white shirts in a sign of protest.

"The strike has started. The FIFA and PreFIFA referees will not attend the physical tests in response to the moral mistreatment," Carrillo said.

Winton Reategui, the president of the Professional Association of Football Referees (APAF), said: "The decision to wear white shirts and not referee next weekend is unanimous. We are officiating in midweek to respect the teams."
