Van Boekel disallowed a legitimate Ajax goal in injury time during their 2-2 draw with Heracles Almelo on Tuesday after Van de Ven incorrectly flagged Luis Suarez offside.

The pair were due to officiate in the Eredivisie match between leaders AZ Alkmaar and Willem II on Saturday but have now been stood down.

However, the Dutch federation insist the decision is not a punishment for the error.

A spokeswoman said on www.vi.nl: "The technical commission blames them for nothing. But they found it wise to take them out of the limelight for a while."

Van Boekel has apologised for the decision he made.

He said: "Rob was so convinced he was right that I, despite the heavy protests of Ajax, did not realise until we were in the tunnel that we had made a terrible mistake. This is so hard for Ajax."

Dutch referees' chief Jaap Uilenberg insists the KNVB's hands are tied when it comes to introducing technology to aid officials - despite the pleas of Ajax boss Marco van Basten.

"It's not that the KNVB doesn't want it, but at FIFA there is no movement at all on this issue. And the policy of the world football body leads the way," Uilenberg told AD Sportwereld.

However, Uilenberg thinks fifth and sixth officials at games could soon become a reality.

"The fifth and sixth officials would take their place behind each goal and be in direct contact with the referee," he said.

"The idea of two extra pairs of eyes for the referee is supported by (UEFA president) Michel Platini. The trial is happening at the moment."
