The 93rd-minute equaliser came moments after the Roar's ex-Victory keeper Michael Theoklitos appeared to handle the ball outside the box before kicking it downfield for Matt McKay to run on to and find the back of the net.

Merrick, though, declined to comment about the referee's call, preferring to focus on his side's defending on the long ball forward.

"I don't know what happened," Merrick told FoxSports. "Whether it's in or out of the box doesn't bother me, we should never let a player run in behind like that."

The Victory boss also refused to be drawn into commenting about a post-match scuffle involving Kevin Muscat and Brisbane's goalkeeping coach Fernando vaz Alves, claiming he didn't know of the incident.

Brisbane coach Ange Postecoglou labelled the incident, which he appeared to mediate, as 'handbags'.

Postecoglou added he was pleased to see his side score the late equaliser after 'losing their way' in the second-half when Victory scored three goals to fight back from a two-goal half-time deficit.

"It was a funny old game," he told FoxSports. "We controlled it really well in the first-half, we put some pressure on them.

"Then in the second-half, they are a good side, got the crowd behind, got a bit of a sniff and really took the game to us.

"We were reeling for a bit there but to the boys' credit we managed to get a draw out of it."

Postecoglou continued: "We lost our way. It's part of our learning curve and our progression.

"It's something we have to keep developing. That's what finals football is all about and that's what we're trying to teach our boys. But it's a lot better learning when you don't lose."

Merrick said he felt his side had played well for the majority of the game but bemoaned their luck.

"I feel for the boys," Merrick said. "I thought they played well not just in the second-half, I thought we played well in the first-half too.

"We had some clear-cut chances early on we didn't take them but we made up for that scoring three in the second-half. But as usual it's not good enough for our team."

Merrick continued: "We're definitely a finals team. The boys are playing well. Its great to see Kempy coming and playing like that, Robbie got two and he's just getting better and better and I thought Archie's goal was good too."

Sixth-placed Victory's next match is on Saturday week against city-rivals Melbourne Heart, while leaders Brisbane next face a trip to Sydney on Sunday week.
