The Reds are second-last on the A-League table and have only gathered two wins so far, with one victory coming against their next opponents, Wellington Phoenix.

Regan said he took confidence out of the club’s win against the Nix in December and saw it as a golden opportunity.

Considering the departure of the underperforming Spaniard Sergi Guardiola, Regan said it was hard to envisage new faces in the current transfer window.

And with Italian-born new Australian citizen Iacopo La Rocca freeing up an international spot in the squad, “momentum” was the key word for Regan.

“We need momentum, if that comes in the way of reinforcements then so be it,” Regan said.

“We believe in the boys that are here. If the club decides to go and add to that, then beautiful, but right now our focus is three points against Wellington.

“There’s another foreign spot, we have room, but that’s up to the coaching staff and management to decide what they want for the season and ACL (AFC Asian Champions League).

“We have spots. I’m sure the fans would like us to bolster the squad, sometimes it’s not always possible with the salary cap.”

Regan said the Reds were failing to walk the walk with every game offering up a crucial three points.

But as United sit three games behind a finals spot, Regan said there is still time to make amends.

“There’s 33 points still available to get. Obviously it’s unrealistic, but there’s still 11 games to go,” he said.

“We’ve seen in the competition, if you string two or three wins in a row in the competition, you climb up that ladder pretty quick.

“If we can get a positive result here this weekend, moving forward with Central Coast Mariners, Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets coming up and the boys are still very positive.

“It’s probably been crunch for a couple of weeks, we’ve been treating every game like it’s a Grand Final.

“We have to get the three points here in front of a big crowd with kids getting in for free and it’ll make a really good atmosphere.”
