The former Newcastle stalwart who was dumped by the Jets in April 2015, during the turbulent reign of Phil Stubbins, has reinvigorated his career at Coopers Stadium.

The 28-year-old joined Adelaide at the start of the season as an injury replacement for Jordan Elsey, after a stint with Malaysian outfit Negeri Sembilan FA.

Since then he has impressed coach Guillermo Amor, and endeared himself to the United faithful, following several resolute performances. His new deal sees him remain with the Reds until at least the end of the 2018/19 A-League season.

Since his debut for United against Sydney FC in Round 12, Regan has accumulated 10 appearances in all competitions.

Speaking on his decision to re-sign he said: “My family are happy and for Adelaide giving me an opportunity to come back to the A-League, I was grateful to them for that.

“I had other options from some other clubs, but this is an opportunity to stay at a good club and build on the future success and I want to be a part of that here.”

Regan, who also played for his hometown side Newcastle Jets, revealed he is excited about the positive direction the Club is taking.

“Part of me wanting to stay was that I wanted to know what the future held for Adelaide, I wanted to know about potential targets and I’m excited,” he said.

“Looking towards next season and the future it’s obviously going to be better than this season, but there’s certainly exciting times coming for Adelaide United fans.

“I can assure you there are people being talked to about next season so it’s exciting.”

Regan also said another factor in putting pen-to-paper on a new contract was the amazing support from Reds fans.

“The fans have made me feel very welcome and especially here at Coopers Stadium,” he said.

“You want to play for people that want you here and the fans of Adelaide are some of the best in the league.

“The environment they create here is one that I look forward to playing in front of for the next couple of years.”

Adelaide’s General Manager of Football, Ante Kovacevic added: “This season Taylor has shown his defensive qualities in abundance and has been a great acquisition for the Club.

“He reads the game very well and his experience and desire to win is invaluable to the team.

“He is a leader on and off the park and we’re very happy to have secured Taylor for another two seasons.”
