MIDFIELDER Paul Reid says he’s not walked out on Adelaide United but says Reds coach Rini Coolen has disrespected him and his contribution to the Reds this season.
In a statement released by the midfielder’s representatives, Reid said being dropped from Friday night’s final against Phoenix was the last straw.
And he hinted contractual issues were also at the root of the problem after he was denied a release to join Sydney FC for their champions league campaign.
“My professionalism has never been questioned and I am sure that if you speak to any of my team-mates, past or present, that they would agree,” he said.
“I would’ve loved nothing more than to line up against Wellington on Friday night, but the decision to drop me from the starting XI, despite my strong performance in the 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory in addition to not allowing me to secure my future beyond this season has left me feeling extremely disappointed and frustrated.
"I have definitely not walked out of Adelaide United Football Club."
He added: “There is much more to this than simply not being released to Sydney, but I don’t think it’s appropriate to discuss contractual issues publicly, other than to say I do not feel I have been made to feel an important or valued member of the squad.
“I wish the boys all the best on Friday, and hope that they can go on and win the flag, with or without me.”
