The 90,000-capacity Gelora Bung Karno Stadium is one of the most famous in Asia, with the passionate local crowd making for a memorable time for the Australian players. But a pot-holed pitch made for tough times for both sides in the match and Reid said it made attacking with purpose very difficult.

"It was definitely the worst pitch I've ever played on. It was very boggy, it was like a swamp. There was a cover of grass on it, but there were potholes everywhere and it made it very tough for us. Both teams had to play on it, so you can't make excuses," he said.

"It was quite difficult. We tried to keep it as tight as possible with the distance between the strikers and the defence. We needed to both play the ball wide and penetrate through the middle some times. Danny and Archie found it hard, sometimes the ball would bounce over there foot and other times it would bounce under. It did make it difficult."

Reid said the 0-0 result was a pass mark for the Australian side, but that the Socceroos had gone out there to get all three points in the campaign opener.

"It would have been a much sweeter experience if we had have got three points. Considering all the circumstances, we're quiet happy with the point," he said.

"Pim (Verbeek) said to us after the game, that he was pleased with the point away from home, considering we only had a one-hour training session together. The conditions were very difficult not only the pitch, but the heat and humidity over here. They seem quite happy with a point seeing it was away from home. If we win our next home game then we are in a very good position," he said.

And Reid was pleased with his own performance. Asked to play a less attacking role on the right-hand side, Reid felt he had done what was asked of him.

"It's totally different than the way I play in Adelaide, where we try and get as many men forward as possible. Considering everything, I was quiet pleased," he said.

"To have an experienced campaigner like Craig Moore behind you always helps."

Reid, who made his international debut in the match, said the overall experience was unforgettable.

"It was very hostile in the stadium. We were only 500 metres from the stadium, but the traffic meant it could take 10 or 15 minutes. We had a police escort from the hotel. Within the stadium, everything was cordoned off," he said.

"There were 50,000 there but it felt like 90,000. The crowd were very much in the game. It was a good atmosphere there considering the size of the stadium. It was something the boys enjoyed, not many people have played in such a big stadium."
